The sites that get postponed
Protection programmes almost always start with the flagship locations, which are also the ones with staff, cameras and regular visits. The terminal at a quiet site two hours away receives none of that attention, and it is a far softer target. Ranking by exposure rather than by transaction volume regularly inverts the order an estate had planned.
Anti-skimming: what to check and how often
Physical inspection of the fascia (card reader, keypad, screen surround, dispenser area) is the first barrier and should be routine at the highest-volume sites. To that add configuration control, access review and verification that the installed anti-skimming measures are still working. Frequency follows exposure: not every location needs the same schedule. It is one of the questions branches ask us most often: sites without protection fitted.
What a survey actually finds
Estate records and reality diverge quickly. Our surveys routinely find terminals recorded as protected where the module was removed during a repair and never refitted, models that changed at a site without the record being updated, and two or three units nobody could account for at all. The list is worth having before the first module is ordered.
